National Food Products Company (NFPC) has been part of the UAE’s food and beverage industry since 1971, when the first dairy manufacturing facility was established in Abu Dhabi. The journey began with Milco and was built around two fundamental priorities: maintaining high standards of quality and delivering reliable service to consumers and business partners.
Over the following decades, NFPC expanded its manufacturing capabilities and product portfolio, becoming one of the prominent food and beverage groups in the Middle East.
A significant development came in 1977 with the establishment of Modern Plastic Company (MPC), a dedicated facility producing plastic cups. The venture added a new manufacturing capability to the group and represented another milestone for the UAE’s developing industrial sector.
NFPC continued to broaden its presence in the dairy business during the late 1970s. In 1976, an operation was established to import dairy products from European markets. Growing demand led to the formation of a joint venture with the Danish-Swedish cooperative Arla. The partnership introduced well-known brands such as Lurpak, Three Cows, and Puck to consumers across the region.
Expansion into Dairy and Beverages
The acquisition of Lacnor in 1981 marked another important stage in NFPC’s development. The Sharjah-based company, originally owned by French interests, brought long-life milk and fruit juices into the group’s product range. This expansion strengthened NFPC’s presence beyond traditional dairy products and opened new opportunities within the beverage market.
In 1984, Oasis began operations and introduced bottled water manufacturing on a commercial scale in the UAE. The business became an important part of the country’s bottled water industry and contributed to the growth of packaged drinking water consumption across the region.
Oasis continued to develop its product offering in response to changing consumer preferences. Following the success of its five-gallon water range, the company introduced PET bottles in 1997, providing a convenient option for consumers with mobile and on-the-go lifestyles. The portfolio expanded further in 2005 with the introduction of Blu Sparkling Water.
A Modern Manufacturing Hub
One of NFPC’s major developments came in 2019 with the completion of the Mega Plant at KEZAD. Covering approximately 752,000 square metres, the facility was developed as a large-scale manufacturing cluster incorporating advanced technology, automation, and integrated systems.
The Mega Plant brought together manufacturing operations associated with Lacnor, Milco, Melco, Gulf & Safa, Oasis, and Blu within a single industrial environment. The facility represents a significant investment in modern manufacturing infrastructure and demonstrates NFPC’s focus on improving efficiency, integration, and production capabilities.
Serving a Changing Market
NFPC has developed its position through a combination of established brands, manufacturing expertise, operational flexibility, and an understanding of consumer requirements. The group serves a broad market with products spanning dairy, juices, bottled water, sparkling water, and other food and beverage categories.
Customer expectations continue to influence product development and business operations, while attention to employee development and workplace standards remains an important part of the organization’s approach.
From a single dairy facility in Abu Dhabi to an extensive network of manufacturing operations, NFPC’s growth reflects more than five decades of development within the UAE food and beverage sector. The group continues to build on its manufacturing heritage while adapting its products, technologies, and operations to meet the needs of modern consumers.
