It holds international accreditation and is acknowledged globally by employers for producing graduates who possess the knowledge, abilities and determination required for leadership.AUS values learners motivated not solely by academic achievement but by those who fully engage in the dynamic campus environment and demonstrate ideals of openness, tolerance and respect. This blend of academic quality and community spirit ensures that AUS attracts exceptional faculty members and students prepared to become the next generation of leaders.

A total of 33 undergraduate majors and 48 minors, along with 21 master’s programs and eight doctoral programs, are offered across the institution’s academic units.

As one of the region’s most prominent intellectuals and scholars, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi—Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates, Ruler of Sharjah and founder of AUS—held a clear vision for the university. That vision became a concrete reality when AUS welcomed its first cohort of students in 1997.

The university’s rapid rise since its founding can be attributed to strict adherence to the principles set forth by its founder, expressed through the following values that define the institution’s identity:

  • Science and education must reclaim a central role in advancing society and shaping the lives of future generations.
  • Higher education exists to reshape the thinking of young people so they can confront personal and societal challenges through scientific inquiry.
  • AUS must function as a research hub dedicated to addressing problems facing the community.
  • AUS must have the independence and freedom required to thrive as an autonomous institution.
  • AUS must maintain meaningful, productive connections with the economic, cultural and industrial sectors of society.

The fulfillment of His Highness’s ideas draws from his achievements as an academic and as one of the world’s leading historians of the Gulf region. Holding a doctorate in history from the University of Exeter and another in the political geography of the Gulf from the University of Durham, Sheikh Dr. Sultan is a distinguished scholar who has authored numerous publications on various aspects of Gulf history. As both an author and playwright, he has produced nearly a dozen works on historical subjects that have received critical recognition regionally and internationally.

With more than a dozen honorary doctorates awarded by respected universities worldwide and multiple international honors recognizing his contributions to cultural understanding and education, His Highness has consistently demonstrated leadership by example. His work reflects a belief that multiculturalism, tolerance and open exchange of ideas form the foundation on which a successful and progressive society must be built. The vibrant and diverse campus environment at AUS serves as living evidence of this vision.

AUS offers an engaging and stimulating work environment. With students, faculty and staff representing roughly 90 nationalities, the university presents an opportunity to gain global exposure while advancing a professional career within one’s field of expertise.

All roles include a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package that features a housing allowance, significant retirement contributions and flexible benefit options.

Because faculty and staff play an essential role in the campus community, the university places strong emphasis on providing extensive facilities, services and opportunities that meet the varied needs of community members.

In addition to current employment openings, the institution introduces NextGen Talents—an innovative initiative created to identify, support and empower outstanding Emirati graduates. Designed for individuals with up to two years of professional experience, the program seeks to prepare participants for industry challenges and leadership responsibilities. It offers thorough onboarding, project-based learning experiences and personalized mentorship, ensuring that participants are well equipped to make meaningful professional contributions.
