KDD is a brand that is loved across generations. With a portfolio of dairy, juices, ice cream, and culinary products, KDD can be found in most kitchens, pantries, and refrigerators across the Middle East. History : KDD was founded in 1962 as a dairy company with a vision to achieve nutritional goals through packaged dairy food for the local market. Operating from its first plant in the Shuwaikh area in Kuwait, KDD began producing milk and yoghurt. Over the years, KDD grew and diversified its portfolio. Today, it has a multi-product, multi-category portfolio that caters to a wide variety of consumers in the region.
1962 KDD was originally called the Danish Kuwaiti Dairy Company, or Dankuwa, when operations first began. Operations started in Shuwaikh with the production of pasteurized milk and yoghurt. 1972–78
During this period, KDD introduced an ice cream production line, the first of its kind in Kuwait. This became one of the most iconic products in the KDD portfolio and continues to shine even today. 1981–87
The 1980s marked the beginning of a modernization era. The Sabhan factory was inaugurated with the introduction of long-life milk technology. Shortly after, fruit juice production began, followed by cheese production and tomato paste line expansion. This was also the time when exports commenced to other GCC regions. The company became 100% Kuwaiti owned and adopted its new name, The Kuwaiti Danish Dairy Company, or KDD.
1990–2000This era began with the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, during which KDD continued operating until the factory was bombed in February 1991. After the destruction of the premises, KDD relocated to temporary facilities to continue meeting consumer needs. A period of rebuilding and modernization followed, paving the way for KDD’s entry into the 21st century with a strong portfolio of both long-life and fresh products.
